Telah dilaporkan bahwa Star Wars: The Old Republic tidak lagi dipegang Bioware karena kini mereka harus berfokus pada proyek terbaru Mass Effect dan Dragon Age. Kini game MMORPG tersebut dikerjakan oleh studio pihak ketiga, yakni sebuah studio bernama Broadsword Online Games.
Menurut laporan, Broadsword dan EA telah menanda tangani surat pernyataan resmi dengan kesepakatan yang akan diselesaikan secepatnya. Perjanjian tersebut menjelaskan bahwa Star Wars: The Old Republic akan diserahkan oleh studio yang mengembangkan game Ultima Online dan Dark Age of Camelot, Broadsword Online Games. Studio tersebut merupakan studio yang dibangun oleh mantan pendiri Mythic Entertainment dan Wakil Presiden dari BioWare, Rob Denton yang sebelumnya bekerja untuk tahun-tahun awal The Old Republic.
Kepercayaan EA terhadap Broadsword Online Games dikarenakan studio tersebut sudah menggarap game MMORPG sudah dari lama. Dari pemberitaan di IGN, EA menyatakan:
“Almost 12 years after launch, Star Wars: The Old Republic remains a success and continues to grow its dedicated and passionate community. We’re so proud of the work the team has done, and the future of the game and the community continues to be very bright.”
“We’re evaluating how we give the game and the team the best opportunity to grow and evolve,” the publisher continued, “which includes conversations with Broadsword, a boutique studio that specialises in delivering online, community-driven experiences. Our goal is to do what is best for the game and its players.”
Berdasarkan pemberitaan dari IGN, apabila kesepakatan itu sudah sah, semua tim pengemang game The Old Republic akan berpindah ke Broadsword.
